How I nearly killed my bread starter (and a post-summer update)

It was a beautiful summer. However, the intense heat sometimes left me feeling tired and lazy (yes, I’m going to use that unpopular word!), and I would forget to feed my sourdough starter. The result? I nearly killed it! If you have experienced a similar situation, you can easily revive it. Take just 30 grams of your starter—or as little as possible—and begin the feeding process again. Try to keep it out of the fridge for a while; instead, feed it twice a day at room temperature. You can start baking your bread again once its consistency becomes soft and bubbly. My starter is slowly returning to this healthy state, so I recently started baking again. Phew! If you want to try my easy bread recipe, you can read it here—perhaps you will feel tempted to start making your own. Why not?

Apart from that drama (!), we had a fairly calm and relaxed summer filled with little trips, walks, wild swimming, doing nothing, reading books, baking cakes, spending time together, and staring at the beautiful world. So simple, yet it filled my cup of happiness. Now that September is here, I am back at work at my language school. We have just launched our September courses and are about to start our autumn term in October. Bristol Language School turned 14 this academic year—that’s definitely something to celebrate! I’m excited for the coming months, even though I know they will be intense with work, family, and home life. I am hoping to squeeze my days like lemons, while still leaving some space for a good night’s sleep, an interesting read, and a swim.

Till next time!
